I spoke to Wakan Tanka (god) last night
he told me to not be afraid
Stand up for your self, it is not O.K for people to treat you bad
“You represent me and your ancestors, in all you do, the good and the bad.
Are you going to allow people to walk all over your god and your people?”
Not long after i spoke with Unci Maca (or grandmother the earth) She told me to not be ashamed.
She questioned why i was ashamed of who i am, when i am in a white world.
I told her i wasnt.
She asked me again, “Why are you ashamed?”
I again said im not.
She kept saying the same thing, knowing that eventualy itwould make me think, and tell the truth.
Why are you ashamed she asked. You do not see buddhist ashamed of their robes they wear. You do not see Muslims hiding behind corners so that noone sees them in their coverings. They are proud, they show themselves to you, their true selves.
So again i ask, “Why are you ashamed”.
My answer was simple. “They dont understand our ways.”
She said in a stern, old but caring voice. “How are they to understand, if you hide your ways from them. ”
So i prayed,
I prayed that the Wambli (eagle) will help share with me boldness and courage. Courage to show my true self to the world.
I prayed that the Hehaka (elk) will share with me his wisdom and beauty, To show others how truly beautiful and wise our people are.
I prayed to the four corners, so that they will accompany me through my journeys and life, Never to be forgotten.
I prayed to Wakan Tanka and Unci Maca.
I offered them all i have and my Tabacco, for without their infinite wisdom i would never have gotten this far.
